The Role of the Practice Nurse
The practice nurse is able to assess your nursing needs. She will be able to provide your care and treatment either in consultation with the GP or independently, as appropriate.  For example, the practice nurse will help to provide care to patients with chronic (long-term) diseases, run some clinics and carry out screening work such as cervical cytology (smear tests).
